WELLSVILLE – Nancy Bentley Murray, of Wellsville, Ohio, died Thursday, July 1, 2021 at Mercy Hospital. Nancy was born in East Liverpool on January 6, 1947, daughter of the late Lloyd and Margaret (Jenkins) Bentley. She graduated in 1965 from Southern Local High School and has resided in the area her entire life. She was a member of the old Immaculate Conception Church in Wellsville.
Nancy married Willis Murray on November 27, 1965 and from their union were born two sons. Nancy and Willis spent 53 years together until her death on April 13, 2018.
Nancy has held several positions in the public service throughout her life. She worked for approximately 16 years in the Department of Social Services in Lisbon, Ohio. She then started working in the auditor’s office in East Liverpool; Nancy eventually became a member of Wellsville City Council; and finally, her most remarkable career, as the current mayor of the village of Wellsville, where she was serving her second term. She was very accomplished in this position and was very proud to have brought the village out of the fiscal emergency, in the midst of the global health crisis of COVID-19. Nancy loved Wellsville and put her whole heart into her work and the people of her community.
Above all, Nancy loved her family. His greatest joy was his four grandchildren. She loved spending time with them while watching them grow into caring, compassionate teens who show the same loving family values ââthat she so openly displayed.
His sons, Anthony (Michelle) Murray, of Galena, Ohio, and Justin (Michelle) Murray, of Charlotte, NC, leave behind to cherish his memory; her four beloved grandchildren, Arianna, Gabriella, Rocco and Santino; she is also survived by her sister, Irene Bonidie, of St. Augustine, Florida.
In addition to her parents and husband, Nancy was predeceased by her young granddaughter, Margaret; two brothers, David and Lloyd Bentley; and her sister, Mary Ruth Lamarra.
Visitations will be held from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 7, 2021 at Care Funeral & Cremation Specialists – MacLean Chapel in Wellsville. The funeral will follow at 7 p.m. Interment will be in St Elizabeth’s Cemetery in Wellsville.
